Educational Asthma Management Campaign

Abigail Cohen and Andrew Brimer, undergrads in the School of Engineering.

Cohen and Brimer are the co-founders of Sparo Labs, a company that has invented an award-winning, patent-pending device that revolutionizes the management of chronic respiratory diseases.

Andrew and Abigail believe that the key to better health care is education.

Therefore, in conjunction with developing their medical device to better manage respiratory diseases, Andrew and Abigail are committed to partnering with a national organization, such as the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America or American Lung Association, to develop a campaign that raises asthma awareness and educates patients on how to best manage their asthma.

Sparo Labs was one of the winners of this year’s Olin Cup competition. The team has spent nearly two years developing the product and a prototype that conquers the historical issues of high cost and difficulty of use.

Sparo Labs is preparing a product for clinical trials and FDA approval that empowers patients to quantitatively track and proactively manage asthma, cystic fibrosis, COPD, and other respiratory diseases via seamless integration with smart phones, tablets and computers — ultimately implementing low-cost diagnostic and monitoring spirometry worldwide.
