Bringing Sight to Villa El Salvador
Sourik Beltran, undergrad in Arts & Sciences
Sourik plans to outfit a community health clinic in Villa El Salvador, Peru with a basic eye-care unit as a solution to the community’s unaddressed visual health needs. To ensure the sustainability of the program, Sourik plans to provide the clinic with 500 adjustable-prescription glasses and train several of the clinic’s nurses in performing eye exams. The clinic will then be able to sell basic eye examinations and pairs of glasses such that at least one additional pair of glasses can be purchased for each pair sold. Furthermore, Sourik will organize an eye-health campaign focused on educating the community on basic eye-health and beginning to distribute the glasses.
